Silke Schoener

An homage to the emptiness. Silke Schoener leaves the broad area of imagination to the white surface. “I am interested in presenting something without showing it”, says Silke Schoener about the impulse of her painting, also in reference to her current subjects.
Thereby we reached the foundations of art. First, it is about the daily search for new images. Here, the notion ‘image’ also stands for feelings, relationships, topics such as love, war and peace, expulsion. In the case of Silke Schoener, it is about painting, the use of tools, the method of presentation, it is about colours and rooms and about fantasy. Silke Schoener paints intently, with a feel for details, and drops what she does not consider as being important. She simply stops painting when everything which is important is visible. It is interesting that her unfinished images reveal more, evoke more for the viewer than the several other finished images. Just as our eyes are able to complete an unfinished line, we complete these images in mind and fill the gaps: We long for home. We perceive loss and distress. We enjoy the beauty of the landscape. We take part in the drama of life.
